Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Posted in Uncategorized on May 25, 2012 by kellizink

Show some respect for those who have risked their lives for our Country.

And if you don’t think freedom is cool- watch “Locked Up Abroad” and trust me…you will.

Also- big hugs to Shaun’s sister Jessica who’s in the ICU unit at Northwestern Hospital…the little trooper is fightin’ a mean battle over there. If you pray- please include her in your thoughts.

Happy Holidays all- how are you celebrating?

So.Yeah.Duh.Huh?

If you haven’t checked out So.Yeah.Duh by now, then you probably don’t live in Chicago and then that’s totally ok cause you may not get the jokes and then you would think my sense of humor is off.

Which brings me to my next point(s)- I need to go back to my #1 Rule:

Never read comments about myself.

Time Out Chicago did a poll on who they think could be behind this blog and included me:

http://www.timeoutchicago.com/things-to-do/chicago-blog/15389226/who-is-behind-the-soyeahduh-blog

Awesome, right? Well…kinda not really. See, if you look in the comments section you’ll see this:

Ryan is way too cheap to stay up on most of this. Lisa and Monica are totally smart, witty ladies who could produce this seemingly Gossip Girl .gif (pronounced “JIFF” people) fest. They both have my vote. Who says it can’t be multiple contributors? KZ? No. Love her, but…no.
Well, thanks Soyeahhuh? for the “love” but do you think all I care about is Celebrity News and working out? Fair enough- my fault…it’s the “image” I’ve created via social media platforms and around town. I suppose I’d rather be respected and “loved” and then have people be surprised that I have a sense of humor. Or do I feel that way? Oh and also- not nice words about Ryan, he is one of the sweetest men in Chicago and doesn’t deserve those words.
Guess it’s moments like this that make us challenge who we are or are perceived to be as people.
At any rate- it’s not me, but the blog IS hilarious and I hi 5 the girl behind it daily.*
*yes, I do know who’s behind it and they are genius.

Ball So Hard

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on May 23, 2012 by kellizink

me, Jen, Shannon, Michelle, and Meggy Fox (who crafted the shirts)

We came, we bowled, we conquered. Or some other cliche- whatever…we had fun.

Isaac, Pete, Dan and Victor

Thanks a million to Eric Bolf and Dez Clark for giving CelebTV a lane at his 88 Pinz Foundation event last night.

baller status!

We were teamed up with Google (my college buddy and former MSU baller Jason Andres happened to play on my team!!), Laurence Holmes (Score radio dj) and David Diaz (pro fighter).  And we had a total blast- everyone took a turn at bowling and we cheered each other on no matter how bad we were.

Victor giving it his all

I chatted with Brian Urlacher but chickened out when it came time to ask if he’ll be at Jenny McCarthy’s event tomorrow…guess it will have to be a surprise.

Jerry Azumah met our crew and Robbie Gould bet me a dollar he would beat me (he did-by a lot.)

Zoom Nation!

In the end, it was a really fun way to bond out of the office and I’m so glad we went.*

This dog’s name is Miyuki Chihiro Heafy- naturally. My co worker Jen Fisher found him on someone’s FB feed for Moscot eyewear.

Hey Miyuki- call me- lets hang.

Be-weave It

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on May 22, 2012 by kellizink

I’d like – make that LOVE- for ya’ll to believe I have naturally glossy and long locks…but then you wouldn’t read this blog for beauty tips and tricks right? And you’d probably secretly hate me (like I want to hate Denise Richards for her perfect real hair) and that would make me have a complex…so- here is the truth.

When I began hosting CelebTV, I was asked to “freshen up” my look and part of that process was getting highlights and clip in extensions. Over time the highlights became full on blonde hair and my naturally dark strands went into panic mode.

super blondie

My hair began breaking off, falling out and resembling straw. At one point my daily stylist* said if I didn’t cut it all off or go dark, I would be left with about three strands of hair.

So I cut it:

so short!

then dyed it:

dark side

and now it’s healthy enough to be “honey” colored again and thanks to the wonderful people at Euronext hair extensions- I’m able to add length and volume while I wait for my hair to grow out entirely again.

They just came out with a new shade that looks very natural and I’m wearing them today for the first time. Let me tell you- it’s like wearing a new dress or hot pair of shoes. I am VERY happy.

If you want to try them out- here is a link to where you can find them:

And here is day 1 with the new weave:

Go get your hair gurl!

Bowlin’ With My Homies

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 17, 2012 by kellizink

WARNING: I am about to name drop a little. Don’t read any further if it will make you not like me.

Ok, now that we’re all good- I need to share how terrible I am at bowling. Seriously- really, really bad. I think I bowled 10 gutter balls last night even with a pro bowler helping me…and I don’t mean one of the NFL guys who have played in the Pro Bowl… there was literally a professional female bowler at Jerry Azumah’s event giving tips.

The man Zoom and his custom bowling ball

Jerry put me in lane #9, next to his and through out the night we had a rotating “team” of; James Rhine, Tony from Rockit Ranch, me, Shaun, Devin Hester, Isreal Idonje, Antoine Walker, Tim Jennings and almost Julius Peppers- but he balked every time it was his* roll.

Football players in general are serious about their bowling. Tim had his own glove and ball. Devin and Tim kindly suggested* that one of them play my second ball after my score was 1 in the 5th frame, and Antoine got REAL mad when he didn’t get a strike.

the Bear’s punt return king playing clean up/lead off for me to avoid a 0

The thing that I love about bowling, and team sports in general is that you bond with strangers over a common goal. Would Devin Hester normally high five and hang with Shaun? I’m going with – no. But last night they were fist pounding away after solid plays. Would I normally yell “Antoine- get over here!”? Hell no- the man is LARGE- I came up to about his waist- but every time it was his turn I’d wave him over with authority. (Then hide as he swung his long arm with that bowling ball in it)  Would I call one of the Bears’ DB’s “Timmy” without fearing for my boyfriend’s life- nah….but last night I was like “Nice roll Timmy!” all night long. Oh- and I chest bumped Devin after a strike (he got- obvs not me). I thought it was super cool of the players to be so nice to Shaun and Tony too, and not just each other or the ladies.

My point is-  it was an awesome night. Almost the entire Bear’s defensive line was there to support Jerry’s cause as well as local celebs like Richard Roeper. I made a ton of new friends and got to catch up with guys like Lance Briggs and Rasheed Davis – who I see once or twice a year at these events. Plus- people like my buddy Ahmed get to be rock stars when they bowl amazing games.

I was NOT #1- but I was optimistic…and wrong…and had glow eyes…and a patient boyfriend who didn’t yell at my awful skillz

Next week the CelebTV staff has our lane in Dez Clark’s event and I can not wait to do it all again.

*someone named Brian was in our lane but he never showed so we filled his spot with rotating players

PT Popup

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on May 16, 2012 by kellizink

My friends at the Mercadito Hospitality Group were very sneaky and launched a new concept in the Talbot Hotel on Delaware and State in the Gold Coast.

Chef Patricio Sandoval pretty much flew in from Miami and did the menu in a matter of days, then the staff worked their butts of on the inside of the former BiCE space and voila! As of Monday they were open as “PT Popup” for friends and family.

My friend Katrina is the GM there and she invited a group of us for dinner Tuesday night to help test the food and service. Giddy-up! Kat explained that the sidewalk cafe and indoor space would be open under that concept for about 3 months then it would turn into something more permanent. The name comes from Patricio (chef) and Tippling Bros (cocktails) plus PT =’s part time.

The outdoor seating is perfect for that neighborhood, it feels casual and it’s just off the beaten path in the “triangle”.

Here is what we had:

Smoked Fish Dip: sounds weird- tastes awesome. Served in a mason jar and has the consistency of tuna salad but with a more refined flavor. Hint of Serrano chilies for Patricio’s signature kick.

fish dip

Red Snapper Ceviche: unusual combo of red snapper, potatoes, corn, citrus and spice works. Paired with plantain chips for an interesting twist.

Shrimp cocktail: standard.

Oysters: very delicious and served on a bed of salt.

Lobster Rolls: our crowd favorite of the night. These looked like mini sliders and Shaun said they tasted like Lobster bisque on a bun- in a good way. I think we went through four orders.

Lobster tacos: look like Patricio’s tacos from Mercadito, more delicate flavor than the lobster rolls, light and perfect for summer.

Chopped Chicken Salad: large portion going on over on Lexi’s plate. Looked like a lot of shredded goodness on a plate. She liked it.

Chicken: it was gone before I really saw it, but I know it was served on the bone, and the table loved it.

Steak: only thing anyone had less than stellar comments about- but it was on the cut of meat itself and not the flavors. We were told it was a vendor issue and it was getting fixed ASAP. Side note: we HATED saying anything negative, but that’s why we’re there- to be honest.

Dessert-

We shared some apple strudel type of dessert that was filled with goat cheese and served with vanilla ice cream. Amazing.

Cocktails-

TomKat: yum. It’s pink but apparently it’s so good that the boys at the table didn’t care about the fruity drink they were holding.

Ginger: tart yum- served up in a martini glass.

table shot. we don’t look like we’re having any fun, right?

I really think little facelift is exactly what the ‘hood needed. It’s ideal for a business lunch, casual dinner with friends or a first date.

Check it out before it’s gone ya’ll- it opened today.

Strike!

Most people think my idea of an ideal night is going to a fancy restaurant or the Opera or some bougis party.

They would be wrong.

One of my favorite ways to spend an evening or rainy day is: BOWLING.

My love for the lanes started back in 2003 when I worked at NFL Network and we’d go bowling as a staff all the time. I didn’t know very many people in LA at the time so the staff was like family to me, and they never made fun of my numerous gutter balls. *

I LOVE the idea of bowling as a charity event. It’s something almost everyone can do, and it really brings people together and forces conversation amongst strangers.

Tomorrow night I’m bowling in Jerry Azumah’s ASAP Foundation event- and I LOVE this night. Jerry draws a really fun crowd and we always manage to have lots of laughs and raise $$.

Me and Jerry AzumahRasheed Davis teaching me how to NOT get the ball in the gutter at last year’s event. (note to self- don’t wear that same jacket tomorrow)

If you’d like to bowl in his event there is still time- check out the link:

http://www.theasapfoundation.org/annual_event.html

Next Tuesday the CelebTV staff is bowling in Dez Clark’s event. We are ready to represent and we’re really hoping Urlacher brings his new gf Jenny McCarthy!

Come roll with us… details are below:

It’s the perfect time to rub elbows with Chicago Bears and local celebs, plus you can pick up some sweet silent auction gear for Father’s Day, Birthday’s and the sports fans in your life. Not to mention- these things are a blast.

Hope to see you there…someone needs to witness my STRIKES!*

*they always made fun of me

I saw this blog today on Refinery29.com and had to share it.
